Children, Youth and Family Services; Every child deserves a bright future

For over 89 years we have helped create a brighter future for the children of central Virginia. We are a local nonprofit that addresses the issues of poverty, child abuse and neglect, parenting, child care quality, teen runaways, and early learning.

In the last year alone, we gave over 4,000 kids a chance …

  • for a successful future

  • for positive family interactions

  • for quality early learning

  • for a safe place to live

Now we want to reach the rest, so every child has access to the successful future they so greatly deserve.

BEST BUY gives $6,000 to Support CYFS Runaway Emergency Services Program. Best Buy Children’s Foundation has provided a $6,000 grant to CYFS for teen counseling. Services will be directed at teens that have run away from home, are at risk of running away, or are homeless. Prevention efforts will help teens work on healthier relationships to avoid becoming runaway or homeless. Over 245 local youth will benefit from services this year. Key facts about CYFS:

  • We provide services for children from 0-18; some of our programs start before a baby is even born.

  • We help children get the skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to become productive adults.

  • Our programs are designed to prevent problems before they can interfere with a child’s successful development.

  • We meet children and their families where they are — physically, socially and emotionally.

  • Most of our services are offered in the home or neighborhood, so children and families can access our services as easily as possible.

  • We avoid predetermined plans, preferring to help families meet their own goals.
